About

The idea about Time & Times is that, rather than be a travel/photo, blog of which there are thousands, it should be about the pictures. As we know, every picture tells a story but, as I say in the title, ‘Behind every picture is a story’.

The site is new and over time, I will be adding to the pictures as well as the stories behind. It is also linked to my Instagram site timeandtimes.world. Please feel free to visit. I have over 600 posts which cover the whole range of my photographic interests, Wildlife, Travel, Landscape and soon to be added, Macro/Photo-art.

Born in Nairobi, I have travelled all my life both for business and pleasure. It it’s in my blood and being Thursday’s Child, I have far to go.

The places visited, now over 120 countries and territories (as per the Travelers Century list), leave their mark on both ones outlook and understanding over the years.

It is only really 4 years ago that I took up photography seriously. Before I had always taken snapshots but I met the most wonderful teacher, namely Rafael Rojas (essentialseeing.com) who completely changed my view on how to see the world through the eye of a camera.

Rafael is that rare individual who marries the technical with the creative and spiritual. A multi-award winning photographer, he is a patient and motivating teacher and together with his wife Anca, they are the most interesting and charming company.

Like any artform, your expression changes over time and I have seen my pictures ‘grow’ and change under his guidance.

I do mostly wildlife and landscape and love people and portrait photography, although the latter is harder and harder to do these days.

A couple of years ago I had a wonderful day with Victoria (a biologist responsible for the reptiles in the Somerset Levels, in the UK.) She is affectionately known as the Frog Lady and is an award-winning photographer to boot. She introduced me to Macro photography and the world of the small…. Amazing!

I am not one to get creative in Photoshop. I make small adjustments with exposure and contrast etc. in Lightroom as I want the picture, as much as possible, to represent what I saw. However, I have learnt that one can get creative with the crop and the new high pixel cameras allow you to see the ‘picture within the picture’.

When I’m able, I love to travel not just for my photography. When at home I am out most days early morning or evening and as I live by the lake of Geneva, I have a richness of mood, landscape and wildlife at my doorstep.

I hope you enjoy my photos and stories. Some are good and some are not so good but in the end their mine…..

Robin
