We were in the famous harbour town of Cadiz and heard this noise outside. Going to the window we saw this amazing parade celebrating a saints day. All colour and music, incense and finery.
It was a childhood dream to visit Samarkand; ancient centre of learning on the silk road. This the great square (Registan) in the centre with two of the three madrasas that were centres of learning for centuries.

The Alpine Crossing is the most famous hike in New Zealand, going up to the mountain of Doom and into the land of Mordor. It takes around 8 hours through some really spectacular scenery. It was hot and we didn't take enough water causing big problems on the way down. For more go to Stories.
Kaiteriteri is a beautiful town in the Tasman. We stayed in a wonderful hotel with this view down over the estuary and the Tasman sea. Definitely my favourite place in the South Island.

The amazing thing about Victoria Falls is that the land around is flat. The Zambezi simply falls into a great crack in the earth. Although it was low season, it is still a mighty impressive. This is a small section of what is the largest waterfall in the world.

We spent a night on a boat in Ha Long Bay, the bay of a thousand islands. It is really special and I could hardly put my camera down. In amongst the islands live the boat people, which you see from time to time, going about their lives.
Knysna Bay in the morning light with The Heads at the back which open up to the Indian Ocean. The Featherbed reserve is on your right and worth visiting, and East Heads Point on the left with a marvelous 'lookout circuite' with stunning views.
This lady is famous in Hoi An. You would find her by the riverside selling her wares. A wonderful lady who doesn't mind you taking her photo if you ask her nicely.
Traveling up the Mekong to Phnom Penh I saw this scene of man and boy out fishing in one of the side creeks. A lovely moment living in the memory.
I have a very early memory going up Table Mountain in a small gondeler with my father sitting on the floor, afraid of heights. Cape Town down to the right, and Robben Island in the distance. It must be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The Ta Prohm Temple in Siem Reap is much photographed but I liked this pic particularly as there are no people in the shot. We arrived early by tuk tuk with our guide to avoid the crowds. It has to be one of the most 'out of the world' places ever.
One of the most beautiful islands in the Canary Islands is La Palma, a place off the tourist track, a place of flowers and perfect weather, volcanic and mountainous. This is a shot over the salt pans to the lighthouse.
Clouds cover the top of the escarpment that lead to the central plateau of Island and the black volcanic sands lead down to the sea. A place of stunning beauty with views to die for round every corner.
There is a tented camp in the Ningaloo Reef built right by the water, the reef is just offshore. A World Heritage Site it is 260 km long offering wonderful diving /snorkeling opportunities. You have learn to do with 20 liters of water pp per day. A challenge but worth it.

Of all the places I've travelled to in the world this is the one that affected me the most, spiritually. We went up twice, one morning and one afternoon. The morning visit was misty and rainy. The afternoon beautiful and sunny. Here the evening sun lit up the ruins in a special way.
The Lion Rock in the Galapagos in the evening light. A wonderful and unique place for a photographer. We had a two week trip around the islands in a catamaran, walking and snorkeling, photographing and wondering.
